Family Hiking Group (FHG)Information

Scout Plus 18.jpg (12803 bytes) The Family Hiking Group is open to all families linked to 1PSC. The hikes vary in both mileage and difficulty, however during the year I try to get hikes in for all abilities from Beaver Scouts to the more mature hiker such as parents and grandparents. Please read the information about the hike and if you fancy joining us drop me an e-mail. You will need the right equipment for all these hikes so please ensure you follow the recommendations on the kit list. If you have any doubts, questions please feel free to get in touch.

You must also be aware that undertaking many of these activities comes with a chance of injury, you undertake them entirely at your own risk. 1st Pontefract Scout Centre or any of it's leaders, will not accept responsibility for you or your belongings, these are Non-Scouting Events.

I aim to hike each month, with mileage very low during the winter months. However I'll never do a hike less than 5 miles and aim to have at least one long hike by July in region of 20 to 25 miles. Mileage isn't a good indication of how hard a hike is, 10 miles in Norfolk isn't like a 10 mile hike in Cumbria. I give each hike a rating that you should consider before going on the hike, if you are in doubt please get in get in touch.

Where do we hike? : Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire Moors, Peak District, Lake District and Scotland.

Hiking is great fun, a great way to shed a few pounds and get a little fitter in the process. If you have any medical condition that might affect your hiking then please consult your doctor first. Look forward to meeting you in them darn hills!

KIT LIST

Please let me know if you intend to come hiking, I only have a limited number of places for each hike, but will always do my best to make sure you can hike.

1PSC Family Caravan Club & Camping (FCC)

We have lots of weekends away that you are welcome to join. They are usual in the area we hike but non hikers are welcome. You decide what event you wish to come to, book in under your own name and relax with like minded people. It's up to you how sociable you want to be there's no pressure. Usualy the young people know each other or at least have one thing in common, so they are all happy. That means you can relax without having to put up with moaning kids saying they are bored!

The sites we use vary depending on the time of year, from Caravan Club sites, to Camping & Caravan Club sites in the winter months (Yes we go off all year round). To commercial or Camping and caravan club sites in the summer moths for those in tents.
